Demons

On the surface Luke Forsythe (Christian Cooke) is every bit your average teenager, but with the arrival of his dead father's best friend Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister), Luke's life is about to be flipped upside down. Galvin is a straight-talking, hardline American who has come to tell Luke his secret destiny: he's the real-life great-great grandson of Abraham Van Helsing, the vampire hunter in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Luke's destined to inherit the family mantle as a warrior in the coldest of cold wars against the supernatural entities behind every myth and legend from vampires to werewolves to things that go bump in the night.

Galvin's a larger-than-life character with a tragic past and a zero tolerance policy to "half-life" entities, be they the cockroach-munching "type 5" called Redlip (Martin Hancock), a "type 9" child-snatching demon-in-angel's clothing called Gilgamel, or the "type 12" master vampire Thrip (Mackenzie Crook). In Galvin's view there's only one thing to be done with these nefarious entities: Grade 'em and smite 'em. His mission is clear - he's going to turn Luke into the Ubersmiter and together they'll keep the entities down in the half-life where they belong.

The smiting duo are assisted in their endeavours by Mina Harker (Zoe Tapper), a beautiful, blind concert pianist with mysterious powers. And caught up in the action is Ruby (Holliday Grainger), Luke's best mate, who's keen to get in on the smiting game, and even keener that Luke should one day see her as more than just a friend.

Written by Peter Tabern (Johnny and the Bomb, Hex), Lucy Watkins (Hex, Sugar Rush), and Howard Overman (Hustle, Moving Wallpaper) and produced by Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps (As If, Hex and International Emmy Award winning Sugar Rush), Demons gives a contemporary spin on the character of Abraham Van Helsing, who featured in Bram Stoker's legendary 'Dracula'. This action-packed series follows the adventures of Galvin, Luke, Mina and Ruby as they battle against the dark underworld of half-lives, monsters and in-humans that lie deep beneath the streets of modern-day London.
