This series will trace families' roots and uncover extraordinary ancestors; from the good to the bad to the noble and the royal.

Each week a different families' legend about noble roots is put to the test; fact or fiction the journey is a voyage back in history delving into social history finding uncovering people from the past.

Historian Saul David takes each family on their journey of discovery. The genealogical research is by Nick Barratt. He uncovers the records that prove the connection, or not. Giving the seal of approval is Charles Mosley, Editor in Chief of Debrett's, the recognised authority on the British aristocratic establishment.

Presenter and historian Saul's ultimate goal is to take one 'ordinary' family with a story of blue blood and verify the link and therefore secure a coveted entry in Debrett's.
