Life and Death in Rome

An entirely new way of doing classical history, SKY One's radical reworking of history was both credible and entertaining. Portraying ancient Rome as the ultimate city. Everything we've done now, they had done before 2000 years ago and revealing these modern parallels threw up some fascinating revelations. Visually and tonally the series was superb, fast paced and exciting. Life & Death In Rome was done on a low budget but still had all the requisite drama reconstructions, CGI effects, academic expertise and high production values of a terrestrial landmark series. Life & Death In Rome easily punched above its weight and can stand comparison with the BBC's forthcoming multi million pound production Rome. With such an impressive mix of drama and insight, the series was a huge critical success, revitalised the history genre and SKY One's beleaguered factual reputation soared as a result.
